"For this is the love of God, that we keep His Commandments: And His commandments are not grievous."
1 John 5:3
Is it LOVE or LUST? Real love costs. That's right - there is no "Free love," like you may have thought if you were raised in the "60's. Love is a great and grand commitment. Sometimes a young man who seeks his own gratification will say to a young lady, "I love you" as a means of getting something from her. Oh, he loves her all right. He loves her like a man who loves oranges. He takes an orange, cuts a plug out of it, squeezes the sweet juice from it, throws it on the ground like a piece of garbage, wipes his mouth and says, "Man, I love oranges!" Let me tell you, real love is not that way. Lust lives to get. Real love lives to give. One of the ways you show the Lord you truly love Him is by keeping His commandments. Where is the LORD at on your priority list?
There was an old (94 year old) Evangelist who came to our church in the 1990's. His name was B.M. Page. He had a radio program on the AM dial for over 50 years here in Indianapolis. The name of his radio program was "What the Bible Says". I still remember his sermon that day in my mind. He said "Jesus is predicted in the Old Testament; Jesus is revealed in the Gospels; Jesus is preached in the Acts; Jesus is explained in the Epistles; Jesus is expected in Revelation; and so I started telling everyone "it is ALL ABOUT HIM, isn't it?
"Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord."
Bitterness is an emotional cancer that consumes many a person who once had the bloom of eternal springtime in his heart. Where does it come from? Usually from being hurt. Perhaps you were abused as a child, rejected by someone, fired from a job, or even bypassed or looked down on at church. Bitterness sets in when the hurt goes unresolved. There is a solution. If you've been wronged and bitterness has become so strong that you can almost taste its bile within your mouth, then it's time to pursue it with a holy vengeance. With the Spirit's spade, root it out. Draw a circle that takes in those who have wronged you. Forgive them for Christ's sake! Bow before the Lord today and ask for grace and power to uproot the bitterness that has taken hold in your heart and is robbing you of the joy you desire.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
"Refuse to be content with just the knowledge of God, but insist on experiencing His Presence."...Kerri Weems
"We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5:8
As we get older we can't help but think about the here after, at least us Christians do. My wife and I had a discussion the other day about our great grandbabies, and I said "think about it honey, great grandbabies" we are getting closer to eternity than ever before. The eternity excites me and makes me to wonder about all those who have gone on before me. And that excites me more! It reminds me of a story about an old man "Brother Peas". Now old brother Solomon Peas dies. His tombstone in London reads:
"Beneath these clouds and beneath these trees
Lies the body of Solomon Peas.
But this ain't Peas - it just the pod.
Peas shelled out and went to God."
I like that. That's what your body is. It's just a pod. What happens to a child of God who has trusted Christ as his or her Savior and LORD? When we close your eyes in this life, we open them in the next. Jesus did not say, "After two or three thousand years, you'll be with Me i paradise." Jesus said, "Today, truly, you'll be with Me in paradise" (Luke 23:43).
Are you confident that if you died today you'd be with Jesus in paradise? If not, then confess your sins and believe upon His name to save you. Now, go and tell someone!!
